Police responded to an officer-involved shooting in northwest Jacksonville Friday afternoon.

Jacksonville Fire-Rescue confirmed that a man shot in the 5000 block of Princely Avenue was transported to Shands-Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Jacksonville Sheriff's Office Chief Rick Graham said a suspect during an undercover drug buy got nervous and pulled a gun and an officer in plain clothes shot him.

Late Friday afternoon, Graham identified the man shot as Bruce Kohn, 22. He said that while he had no previous criminal record, he had arranged to meet at the location to sell Ecstasy.

Police said when the undercover officer Detective D.J. Sosnowski arrived, Kohn got into the car.

Police shooting scene on Princely"The deal was being was being transacted in the car. The suspect produced what we believe to be 30 Ecstasy pills ... the undercover officer produced money," Graham said. "As the deal is in progress ... the suspect makes a statement, 'You called the police on me.'"

Graham said when Kohn pulled a six-shot handgun from his pocket, Sosnowski pulled his own gun and fired one shot, hitting Kohn in the neck.

Kohn was rushed into surgery and was still alive late Friday afternoon. Graham said the suspect was in critical condition.

This was the 13th officer-involved shooting in Jacksonville in 2009. Eight of those have resulted in a death.

"Our officer-involved shootings are down tremendously from last year," Graham said. "One is too many."
