Local Man Says He's Thankful For Capt. 'Sully'

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Every year Casey Jones smokes a turkey for his family's Thanksgiving feast. That hasn't changed. But so much else has."I'm thankful for each of those moments and I'm thankful for the family that is around me today, because again, in that last 90 seconds I didn't know if I'd be here to see them," Jones said.Jones, of Jacksonville, was one of the 155 passengers aboard Flight 1549 from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina. Three minutes into the flight, he heard this:"Prepare for impact, prepare for impact.""There were 90 seconds -- from brace command until impact -- the clarity in life is absolutely amazing," Jones said. "I thought about if this doesn't end well the family I'm leaving behind -- and said those prayers -- how i was going to get out."He said he is thankful for pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger who made the miraculous landing. And to his rescuers.There's video of him, being pulled up onto a ferry boat after he fell into the frigid waters of the Hudson."There's the last three of us on the wing and you can see how far it came off," he said.He said since that 20-degree day back in January, his life has changed for the better."We call it the gift -- the outlook on life, the appreciation we have for each other has been amazing. It's like now when I wake up in the morning I know I'm going to have a great day -- but its still a great day."
