JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Students at a local middle school are raising money to benefit the family of a classmate who was hit by a van and killed last week.
Investigators said a van hit 14-year-old Dameon King on March 4 after he ran into traffic on Martin Luther King Expressway. He died Saturday.
Friday afternoon, Dameon's school, Matthew Gilbert Middle School, held a dance in a gym, and during the dance, students made donations to help pay for his funeral.
They also signed a large banner that was a tribute to the teen, who teachers said was a good student.
If you'd like to help Dameon's family pay for his funeral, you can make a donation at any VyStar credit union to account No. 702811166.
