JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- SWAT team members had to force their way inside a home in which a domestic violence suspect had barricaded himself Saturday morning, according to police.
Detectives said Rico McMillan, 23, had locked himself inside the home and was armed with a handgun.
Investigators told Channel 4 that McMillan's girlfriend lived there with their three young children. Police said they were called out to the house in the 1500 block of Pasco Street on the Eastside a little before 1 a.m. Saturday. McMillan's girlfriend told police the couple got into a fight and that he had battered her.
When police arrived, they said McMillan barricaded himself inside with the three children. Officers then called out the SWAT team.
Lt. Derrick Lewis said a little after 8 a.m., SWAT team members entered the house and detained McMillan without incident. Lewis said the children were not hurt. Authorities said they had obtained a warrant to arrest McMillan on charges of aggravated battery, but it's unclear if McMillan will be facing other charges.
There was a significant police presence near the home, just a few blocks away from Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, where thousands of runners had gathered the Gate River Run. Lewis said alcohol played some factor in the argument.
