JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's Legislature is considering putting a national cemetery in Jacksonville.
Some local veterans say there are no viable options for them when it comes to burial in a veteran's cemetery. With more than 100,000 military veterans living in this area, many think it is time for a national cemetery.
Carlos Serrano spent four years in the Navy and was stationed at NAS Jacksonville. Now he works as a production coordinator for Brite Lite Signs in San Marco.
"To be honest with you I think it's a great idea. I think there should be a national cemetery here to honor the veterans from Jacksonville, Florida," Serrano said.
Fred Wilson spent 20 years in the Marine Corps. This combat engineer traveled the world in service to his country and settled in Jacksonville to work as an electrician.
"Well, I think it's outstanding because of all the military personnel who live here in Jacksonville," Wilson said.
The House of Representative passed the bill. The Senate must pass it as well.
Rep. Ander Crenshaw said he is confident that if the Senate gives its approval, President George W. Bush will sign it.
