JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- If the bed is big enough for two, you might think both husband and wife are always in it. Think again.
A study shows one quarter of married couples in America sleep in separate beds.
One marriage counselor said sleeping separately is not always a sign of a bad marriage.
"There's a lot of men and women that snore, so if you want to get a good night sleep, often times you're going to have to leave the room or take a sleeping pill," Matt Borer said. "There are numerous reasons couples can sleep apart and still have a strong marriage. However, sleeping separately can pose problems."
"Intimacy is a lot more spontaneous if you're in the same bed," Borer added.
Beyond that, Borer said when a couple begins and ends their day sleeping together, it can help.
"Because in it's simplest form, it's the last person you see before you fall asleep and the first person you see when you wake up," he said.
