Plane Lands On Moving Pickup
Pilot, Driver Receive Minor Injuries
Police said pilot Glenn Meleen, 23, was forced to land his single-engine Piper plane on West Park Avenue after he experienced problems with the aircraft.
Meleen, a student at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, dropped the banner that the plane was towing and came down on the cab of a passing 1988 Dodge Ram driven by Oglesby, 61, of Edgewater.
"There were no cars coming left or right, but I didn't see any plane," Oglesby said. "I didn't look into the sky."
The truck's roof caved in and shattered glass sprayed inside the vehicle.
"...I thought it was a bomb or either the truck was blowing up," Oglesby said. "That blew my mind -- to know that a plane landed on me. It was amazing. I mean, how often does that happen?"
Oglesby and Meleen received only minor scratches from the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration and Edgewater police are investigating.
Edgewater is 18 miles southeast of Daytona Beach.
