2nd deadly Westside shooting in 1 day

1 man dead, 1 woman in hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 57-year-old man was shot and killed and a woman in her 20s was hospitalized after a shooting Saturday afternoon at a Westside apartment complex, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Michael Paul said around 2:20 p.m. Saturday, two people were shot in an apartment at the Eden's Edge Apartment Complex off Wilson Boulevard.

Henry Underwood died at the scene. Police said he lived in the apartment where the shooting happened.

The woman who was shot was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with life-threatening injuries. Her condition has since been upgraded to serious but stable.

Paul said there were witnesses in another room who told police they heard a knock on the door, then heard multiple gunshots.

This shooting is only about three miles from another fatal shooting that killed two people and injured one early Saturday morning at the Canterbury Gardens Apartment Complex off Lane Avenue. Paul said police do not believe these two shootings are related.
