Only three people wrongly convicted of crimes have been compensated a total of $3.2 million under a Florida law passed four years ago.

An advocate for those and others imprisoned for crimes they didn't commit says it's unlikely many more will be paid.

Innocence Project executive director Seth Miller said Tuesday that's because the law excludes those with prior felonies or those committed while in prison.

He said that's blocked at least six other exonerated convicts from obtaining compensation.

Miller said legislation has been filed in the Florida Senate every year since the law was passed to repeal or modify the exclusion. It hasn't gone anywhere because advocates have been unable to find a House sponsor.

The latest payment was approved in July.
