Gainesville just got three new residents from Ohio: former lab monkeys rescued from Wooster University, which has ended experimentations on the creatures.
Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary on Thursday said it accepted the capuchin monkeys named Gizmo, Alex and Jake.
The three capuchins join two other related monkeys rescued from the same facility, Pip and Zeke.
Kari Bagnall, manager of the sanctuary, says it is home to more than 200 monkeys that have been rescued from laboratories. The facility is expected to get dozens more in coming weeks as more universities end experimentation.
The group Stop Animal Exploitation Now in Ohio helped to find the new home for the monkeys and is paying for their new enclosure.
