3 hurt in East Arlington crash

JSO: woman cited for careless driving

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Three people were hurt in a crash Saturday morning in East Arlington, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

It happened on Fort Caroline Road near McCormick Road around 11 a.m.

An officer on the scene said two vehicles were involved and none of the injuries were serious.

"I was on my way out in the yard and I heard the collision," said neighbor Melissa Betz. "There was barely any tires squealed before they collided. It was the most horrible sound you'd ever hear."

After asking a family member to call 911 she approached the vehicles tying to find out what was going on.

An officer with JSO said the silver vehicle involved was heading south on Ft. Caroline Road when the driver lost control, crossing the lane and hitting this SUV.

"The car started smoking," said Betz. "I was telling people not to move her but because it looked like it was going to catch fire they took her out. Two children maybe one and two years old."

JSO said the two kids inside were OK, but the mother driving the car, as well as the two people in the other car all went to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

While neighbors say they are glad no one was seriously hurt they have noticed an issue with speeding along this road.

Donna Collins has been living near this intersection for more than 10 years people tend to travel faster along this road because it's a straightaway.

"I see a lot of speeding you kind of have to take a double take when you pull out to make sure that you're safe to pull out," said Collins.

An officer on the scene said the driver of the silver car will be cited for careless driving.
