3 injured in house fire
Two people were critically injured and another hospitalized after a Southside mobile home caught fire early Wednesday morning.
Jacksonville Fire-Rescue crews responded to the fire in the 4000 block of Loys Drive in the Windy Hill area about 4:45 a.m. The first crews on the scene said the house was engulfed in flames, but all three adult victims had made it outside.
JFRD spokesperson Tom Francis said a man and woman were taken to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and one was then transferred to Shands in Gainesville. A second man was taken to Baptist Medial Center in stable condition and later released.
Their names have not been released.
Francis said it took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control, partly because the closest fire hydrant was 2,000 feet away and they had to pump about 6,000 gallons of water from tanker trucks to battle the blaze.

Francis said that crews are still monitoring the home for hot spots while investigators try to identify the cause of the fire, but there were no signs it was suspicious. Investigators said the fire started on the porch, and they said all accidental causes have not been ruled out.
Friends and roommates who came to the scene Monday to try and salvage any belongs told Channel 4 those injured had both burns and cuts.
"Two of them went through the window, and a gentleman went out the front," said Joel Shutterfly. "I'm assuming that's how they got cut up, coming through the windows."
Shutterfly said he's not sure how things will go from here, but he's saddened for those injured.
"These possessions, they can be replaced," Shutterfly said. "Life can't be replaced. I'm praying for her and hoping everything's alright."
The doublewide home and its belongings is a total loss. The family's dog Charlie was also found dead.
