2 suspects in shooting of officers, theft of patrol car shot, killed
Miami-Dade Police say three officers shot Tuesday morning were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After one officer was shot early Tuesday, and the others were injured at a separate location in a confrontation with two suspects.
Police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta says the first officer's shooting was reported just after 5 a.m. Tuesday in northwestern Miami-Dade County.
Maj. Nancy Perez says the officers were responding to a call about shots fired in the 2200 block of Northwest 27th Avenue about 5 a.m. After the first officer was shot, the suspect took off in the officer's marked unit.
Perez says the officer's patrol car was stolen and abandoned in Hialeah. Two suspects acquired another vehicle and fired at other officers pursuing them, striking two in the arm.
The suspects were shot and killed by police. Perez says all three officers were undergoing surgery.
"Thank God it was not a life-sustaining organ that was penetrated but he did have some internal injuries," Miami-Dade Police Director J.D. Patterson said. "The other two officers were injured to the arm. Both of them had gunshot wounds to the arm."
