Surfers bitten in separate shark attacks off New Smyrna Beach

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. – Two surfers were bitten Sunday in separate shark attacks off New Smyrna Beach, officials said.

The attacks occurred just south of the New Smyrna Beach jetty.

Volusia County Beach Safety personnel said it received multiple calls for service and three people were taken to a hospital off the beach.

Two of the people rescued suffered shark bites, officials said. One person was hurt in the surf when he was hit by a wave.

Volusia County Beach Safety said its rescue boat also assisted an overturned boat in the inlet that took on water Sunday. No injuries were reported in this incident.
