30 firefighters battle Arlington house fire

Fire officials say lightning was the cause

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville Fire Rescue says a house fire on Briarcreek Road in East Arlington was caused by lightning.

JFRD says the family was not at home at the time, but laptops were plugged in. Fire officials say the lightning strike caused the computers to catch fire.

A neighbor says she's glad the family wasn't home at the time of the fire.

"We are a close community. Several neighbors called 911 immediately. They were fortunate. Firefighters told me there was a lot of damage inside because the fire was inside the walls. But homes can be fixed," Candace Rich said.

Thirty firefighters were on the scene to battle the fire. JFRD says it had to pull the ceiling down to get to the attic. It took 25 minutes to get the fire under control.

Damage is estimated at $50,000.
