PALATKA, Fla. -- Police are looking for a man suspected of trying to abduct a woman Tuesday night in Wal-Mart parking lot, and they hope that surveillance video of the man will help them catch him quickly.
A 22-year-old woman said the man approached her Tuesday night, said his car broke down and asked to use her cell phone."He snatched the phone out of her hand and then immediately started threatening her, saying he had a gun and that she needed to get in his car right away, that he wasn't afraid to hurt her," Palatka police Lt. James Griffith.
The woman got away and the man got it his car and left the scene, but investigators reviewed tape from before the incident recorded inside, finding closeups of the suspect.
Investigators said the suspect in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a medium to heavy build. They said he appeared to have a receding hair line.Police also said that this might not be an isolated case.Investigators said the man didn't seem to care that his every move was caught on tape. They are hoping that having good images of the man will help them find him before he strikes again."It has some suspicious circumstances that lead us to believe that this might not be the first occurrence of someone approaching people out there," Griffith said.Anyone that can help identify the suspect or has any information that could help investigators is asked to call the Palatka Police Department at (386) 329-0115 .
