Kings Bay Naval Base Locked Down

POSTED: Friday, May 21,

A security alert at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base led to a nearly 3-hour lockdown Friday morning when two foreign nationals attempted to get on the base.

Officials said two men, who were contracted by an Atlanta-based moving company, came to the base to help someone move. One of the men could not produce proper identification.

Then, a search dog alerted guards to a briefcase in the truck.

The guards called in the bomb squad and the base went into lockdown.

Though the briefcase did not contain any explosives, the two men were handed over to immigration officials.

The FBI is still investigating the incident.
