JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A worker died Friday morning after investigators said a load of glass panels he was unloading fell on top of him at a Northside construction site.
Just after 10 a.m., rescue crews and police were called to the area of Pine Estates and Dunn Avenue, where an addition is being put on a medical building.
Police said 60-year-old Bobby Stephens, an employee of Mac's Glass and Mirror, was crushed by the weight of 15 large panels of glass.
"He basically untied the glass, and in just that quick moment, it came tumbling down on him," Jacksonville Sheriff's Office spokesman Ken Jefferson said.
An air ambulance was sent to the scene, but the worker could not be saved. His name has not been released.
Personnel with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration were called to the scene to investigate.
