3rd conviction made in Golden Corral murders

Two brothers gunned down in parking lot

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – After two brothers were gunned down in the parking lot of a Golden Corral in July 2013, one of the four men wanted in connection with the murder was found guilty of the shooting Thursday afternoon.

According to the State Attorney's Office, 21-year-old Avery Damon Wood Jr. was found guilty of two counts of felony murder in the first degree and one count of armed robbery in the deaths of 24-year-old Andrew Bohannon and his 19-year-old brother, Matthew Bohannon.

Police said that Wood, along with George Carter Jr., Steven Bennett and Jallil Graves were meeting the brothers to buy some marijuana from the brothers at the Golden Corral on Normandy Boulevard. 

When the brothers arrived, police said that two of the four men approached them and seconds later, the brothers were fatally shot in the head.

Wood's co-defendant, Carter, was convicted and sentenced to two life terms plus 40 years in prison for two counts of murder in the first degree, one count of armed robbery and one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Bennett, one of the other co-defendants, pleaded guilty to two counts of murder in the second degree and one count of armed robbery. He is still awaiting sentencing.

The fourth co-defendant, Graves, is still awaiting trial.
