Reward Offered For Missing Boys

POSTED: Thursday, February 24, 2005

With two Paxon Middle School boys missing for two weeks, the Justice Coalition Thursday offered a $5,000 reward for information that can help return them to their families.

Hayes-Degner photosMark Degner, 12, and Bryan Hayes, 13, were last seen leaving Paxon on Feb. 10.

"We just want them home, safe and sound. That's all we want," said Degner's mother, Linda Alligood, at an afternoon news conference.

Police and concerned family members have actively searched and received several reports that the boys were seen in the Northside, but they haven't found the boys.

Jacksonville police still do not suspect foul play in their disappearance, but say they will continue to canvass the area and follow every lead.

The families are especially concerned because both are supposed to take medication for a bipolar disorder, and Hayes has both kidney problems and high blood pressure.

Preston Degner, Mark's father, said one of the boys had run away before, but never more than two miles from home and had never been gone for more than 24 hours.

"Do what you would do if it was your loved one out there," Hayes' grandmother, Alene Hayes, said. "We need your help."

Anyone who has seen the boys or has any information about them is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at (904) 630-0500.
