Coast Guard Seizes Sailboat, 12 Ukrainians Off Florida-Georgia Coast

Department of Homeland Security agencies working jointly stopped a potential illegal entry into the United States through coastal Georgia Tuesday night.

Seized sailing vesselThe Coast Guard seized a Ukrainian-registered boat off the coast of the Florida-Georgia boarder Tuesday night and took 12 people believed to be trying to illegally enter the United States into into custody.

The sailing vessel Grace was spotted approximately 5 miles from shore by a P-3 airplane flying surveillance for Customs and Border Protection out of Jacksonville. The Coast Guard dispatched two cutters to intercept and board the vehicle.

The Ukrainian migrants were brought ashore Friday at Coast Guard Station Brunswick and turned over to Customs and Border Protection.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Coast Guard and the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Georgia.
