Former Pastor Will Appeal His Own Plea On Sex Charges

POSTED: Friday, March 18, 2005

A former pastor Friday pleaded no contest to having sex with a teenage girl and was sentenced to six months in jail, three years of probation and must register as a sex offender.

Alexie Robert KellyAlexie Kelly was pastor of the Little Rock Baptist Church on Dec. 31, 2003, when he was charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery on a 13-year-old girl.

At the hearing, Kelly's attorney read a letter from the victim asking that he not do any jail time, but the victim's mother said her daughter will never get back what he took from her.

The mother said Kelly needs to find a way to redeem himself in the eyes of his church.

Even though Kelly entered the plea, he announced his intention to appeal.
