Sailor Facing Sex Charges Back In Jail
POSTED: Thursday, April 14, 2005
The Kings Bay sailor arrested earlier this month after three children were found by in his van, along with alcohol containers, a bed and a used condom, is back in jail on an additional charge.
Johnathan Decker, 22, is accused of picking up 12- and 13-year-old girls and the boy. According to police, Decker picked up the children, then allowed the boy to have sex with at least one of the girls in his van.
Decker was originally charged with interference with custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The additional charge filed Wednesday is being a party to a crime of statutory rape -- a felony.
On April 3, deputies found his van stuck in mud under the Interstate 95 bridge that crosses the St. Marys River. The children told officers that Decker left them there and went for work.
Investigators said they also found an address book in the van with names and phone numbers of 18 children ages 16 and younger.
The boy was charged with statutory rape and turned over to juvenile authorities.
He bonded out Tuesday for $25,000, but was arrested Wednesday on the new charge with a new bail set at $11,600.
The Navy said Decker, a machinist mate aboard the USS Maryland, was reassigned after his first arrest.
The Camden County Sheriff's Office said there may be other victims and urged any parent who thinks their children have had contact with Decker to call (912) 510-5100.
