Search Continues For Cousins Missing In Turtle River

POSTED: Thursday, April 21, 2005

ate and local agencies along with volunteers are continuing to search the Turtle River for two men missing since Sunday.

Turtle Creek mapSearch efforts are concentrated near Andrews Island, where the boat that 21-year-old Eric Dykstra and his cousin, Josh Dykstra, 22, were fishing from was discovered on Monday, tangled in some marsh. Two life jackets and other personal belongings still on board.

Six boats and nearly two dozen volunteers aided by a county helicopter have been searching the area since Monday. The Coast Guard assisted for the first 24 hours, but discontinued its efforts Tuesday afternoon.

If river conditions allow it, rescuers will attempt to use a side-scan sonar Thursday to search the river bottom.
