JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police on Tuesday afternoon arrested a man accused of inappropriately touching at least four girls at Pablo Creek Regional Library.
Basem Soliman, 37, is charged with four counts of lewd molestation.
On at least three different occasions, several teenage girls allegedly became victims of his attention.
"I think it's terrible because the library is supposed to be a safe place," library patron Tina Carrington said.
According to police, one of the incidents took place when a 12-year-old girl spotted the man in the teen section of the library. Police said that she later told her mom she had to go outside to the car, but when she looked behind her, she saw the same man following her.
As she unlocked the car door, the man allegedly squeezed between her and another vehicle, brushing his body against hers. She got into the car and locked the doors while he allegedly circled the vehicle.
By the time police arrived, he was gone.
"The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office finds this behavior extremely alarming and it's something that we're going to take a careful look at and an aggressive look at," JSO spokesman Rick Wood said.
The news was alarming to several library patrons.
"It worries me too that, you know, you never know who you can trust and you've always got to be on your guard," said Erin Ayers, who frequents the library with her mom.
