Man, Woman Charged With Manslaughter In Soldier's Overdose Death
POSTED: Monday, October 3, 2005
Two suspects have been charged in the drug overdose death of a 22-year-old Nassau County soldier who had just returned from Iraq.
Army Spc. Richard Miner Jr. was found dead in a Hilliard home on July 13.
Police suspected a drug overdose and initially suspected his estranged wife, Rachel Miner, of giving her husband her prescription Xanax, an anti-depression drug. She was arrested at the cemetery minutes after her husband was buried.
After the Medical Examiner found oxycodone, not Xanax, in his blood, Rachel Miner was released.
After continued investigation, Corey Orsborne, 30, and Molly Calhoun, 22, were charged with manslaughter last week. They are being held on $100,000 bond.
Richard Miner had served in Iraq and Afghanistan. He and his wife were separated, but a family member told Channel 4 that was mostly due to his military service and his readjustment to civilian life.
