Fla. Woman's Ford SUV Explodes Days After Recall Notice

POSTED: Friday, October 14, 2005
UPDATED: 10:17 am EDT October 14, 2005

A Central Florida woman is warning sport utility owners Friday after her Ford vehicle exploded just days after she received a recall notice.

Kathy Roberts' Ford SUV exploded this week after she went for a drive with her husband and then parked the vehicle at her St. Cloud, Fla., home.

"About 10 minutes later, he saw the orange glow and I knew something bad was happening and called the fire department," Roberts said. "The whole front of the car was flames shooting up in the air."

The cause of the fire is under investigation. However, the fire matches the description of other Ford fires happening across the country.

Roberts said she received a recall notice warning her about potential fires associated with a faulty cruise control. However, the notice said parts to fix the vehicle are not available until November.

The latest recall includes millions of Ford trucks and some models dating as far back as 1994, Local 6 News reported Friday. However, not all Ford models are included in the recall.
