Lee High Coach Accused Of Having Sex With Student

POSTED: Wednesday, November 23, 2005

A coach at Lee High School was arrested Tuesday, accused of having consensual sex several times with a student at the school.

Esmond Frazier, 25, is charged with lewd battery on the girl.

According to the arrest report, Frazier admitted to detectives that he had sex with the 15-year-old girl he was tutoring.

Channel 4's Jennifer Waugh reported that Frazier started three years ago at Lee, coaching both volleyball and boys' basketball and working as a substitute teacher. A few months ago, he began working as an after-school tutor.

School officials said Frazier passed a background check and they not aware there was a problem prior to his arrest.

"Here at Lee High School, the priority is students and student welfare," Lee Principal Denise Hall said. "We just want people to know we're here to protect their students and educate their students."

Frazier made a first appearance Wednesday and was ordered held on $150,000 bond.
