Authorities in central Florida are investigating a string of church break-ins.

Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught says six churches were vandalized over the weekend in the DeLand area. He says it's possible the break-ins are related.

The burglaries occurred Saturday night. Reports show windows and front entrances were smashed, fire extinguishers were discharged and contents of refrigerators were emptied on the floor in each of the churches. Nothing was reported missing from the churches.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports security alarms may have stopped the vandals from entering two of the churches in DeLand. Police were called to burglar alarms early Sunday.

Lance Bradley of Holy Presence Episcopal Church says he doesn't believe the attack was a hate crime. Instead, he believes it was a crime of opportunity.
