Man Who Climbed Lighthouse Held On $5,000 Bond

POSTED: Wednesday, February 8, 2006

The man who climbed a St. Augustine lighthouse before dawn Tuesday wearing a white tiger costume is expected to be released on bond this afternoon.

Frank Feldmann, 35, spent the night in jail after barracking himself in St. Augustine's historic lighthouse and climbed onto the 16-story roof. After about three hours tied to the lightning rod above the light, police talked him into coming down.

He was charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. A judge Wednesday set bond at $5,000.

Feldmann told officers he climbed the tower to bring attention to his fight against Internet child pornography. He is the father of a 9-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy.

Feldmann first appearance
Wednesday morning, Frank Feldmann was ordered held on $5,000 bond on felony charges of burglary and possession of burglary tools.
The tiger suit is one he can be seen wearing in a Web site he uses to promote a series of children's books he has written.

This wasn't the first time Feldmann has drawn attention to himself. In 2003, he rode a carousel for 52 hours. Once he tried to climb an "impossible rock" in Sioux Falls, S.D., with a companion in the middle of a river near a waterfall.

In 2002, he distributed thousands of sea shells on doorsteps in the Midwest. Inside each, a handwritten Web address offered a free copy of the children's book.
