7 poisoned by carbon monoxide in South Florida townhomes

1 person found dead inside home

WILTON MANORS, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's homicide detectives are investigating after a person was found dead at a home in Wilton Manors Monday morning.

Deputies said they arrived to a town house at 2259 NW Ninth Ave. and found three people unconscious, one of whom is a child, as well as two dead dogs.

Deputies said based on preliminary information, it appears the victims were poisoned by carbon monoxide. A car that was still running was found in the garage.

According to deputies, one of the adults was pronounced dead at the scene. The other adult and the child were taken to Broward Health Medical Center. Deputies said two good Samaritans went inside to help the family before authorities arrived. One was taken to the hospital and the other was treated at the scene.

Authorities searched neighboring town homes as a precaution and found two others who had also been poisoned at the home next door. They were also transported to the hospital.
