JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Police are searching for clues in a fatal shooting after a party in Mayport on Thursday evening.

Officials said Chad Henderson, 19, was at a party at the Mayport Trace Apartments just before 7 p.m. when someone began shooting.

Police responding to a 911 call of shots fired in the 2100 block of Mayport Road said a large group of people congregated in one apartment dispersed after the gunfire. Officers found Henderson dead on the floor.

"He was a really good kid. He didn't really bother no one. He was quiet," said Henderson's friend, Ruby Matthews.

Homicide detectives continue to investigate the shooting. They have not released the circumstances of the shooting or named any suspects.

However, several people at the apartment complex told Channel 4 the incident might have started because of an offensive tattoo worn by the victim.

"He's a good kid. I didn't think he would get shot over something stupid like that," Matthews said.
