JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Animal Care and Protective Services staff is in the final planning stages for its new monthly, first Saturday adoption events, which are held at the shelter located at 2020 Forest Street.

ACPS said previous all-day adoption events were successful in helping hundreds of dogs and cats find forever homes, inspiring ACPS to continue hosting the events regularly on the first Saturday of the month.

"Not only do the first Saturday events help us place many more animals than before, they also help bring attention to our community's animal needs, programs and facilities," said Scott Trebatoski, ACPS division chief. "It is a great opportunity for people to visit our facility, which was built in 2009, and see what we have to offer."

Each month, ACPS will celebrate a theme, whether it is football season or the holiday season. The public can easily save-the-date for each upcoming adoption event by marking it down for the first Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For the month of February, ACPS is celebrating National Responsible Pet Owners Month and will have a special adoption rate of $20, which includes spaying or neutering, rabies vaccinations and a microchip. The On the Fly Sandwich & Stuff food truck be will onsite, selling various creations. Other vendors for February include Pawfection Bakery, Bubba's Bistro and Sam's Club.

The next event will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 2020 Forest Street.
