As IF traffic isn't already BAD ENOUGH from detours around the Mathews Bridge...NOW there's construction planned on a different bridge in Arlington. We're talking about the one that crosses the water on Cesery Boulevard and University. Soon - IT will ALSO be under construction. Tonight - there's a meeting where you can ask questions. Channel 4's Erica Rakow joins us LIVE from Arlington - Erica, how is the department of transportation going to handle this considering so many people use the bridge to get around the mathews? 3 THAT'S RIGHT.. BECAUSE THE MATHEWS BRIDGE IS CLOSED.. A LOT OF PEOPLE COME DOWN THIS WAY.. CROSS OVER THE ARLINGTON RIVER BRIDGE ON UNIVERSITY AND HEAD DOWN TO ATLANTIC. I'M TOLD THAT IS BEING TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION AND THAT THIS BRIDGE WORK SHOULD NOT START UNTIL THE MATHEWS HAS RE-OPENED. 3 :00-:06:11-:22THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAYS THE ARLINGTON RIVER BRIDGE HAS OUTLIVED ITS STAY ON UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD.4:17 its an older bridge and it's one of those situations we ran into where it either had to be repaired or replaced and we decided let's build a brand new bridge that will last for many years to come instead of the constant maintenance that's been going on in recent years A TEMPORARY BRIDGE IS BEING BUILT FOR PEOPLE TO USE WHILE THE EXISTING TWO LANE BRIDGE IS DEMOLISHED AND THEN REPLACED WITH A NEW CONCRETE BRIDGE.THE D-O-T SAYS CREWS WILL BEGIN THE WORK ON NOVEMBER FOURTH.. BUT THIS AREA IS A HUGE DETOUR FOR THE CURRENTLY CLOSED MATHEWS BRIDGE.. SO ANOTHER CONSTRUCTION ZONE COULD CREATE AN EVEN BIGGER TRAFFIC NIGHTMARE.. SO, THAT DEADLINE IS FLEXIBLE.10:32 if the Mathews doesn't open by November fourth will this be delayed? That's something we'd have to address but we're confident that they'll make the florida/Georgia deadline WHILE THE ARLINGTON RIVER BRIDGE IS BEING REPLACED, THE D-O-T SAYS) THERE WILL BE NO DETOURS, NO LANES WILL BE CLOSED FROM 6 TO 9AM AND FROM 3 TO 7PM, CREWS CAN ONLY PILE DRIVE BETWEEN 8 A-M AND 5P-M MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AND PEDESTRIANS WILL STILL BE ABLE TO CROSS.ANYONE WHO STILL HAS QUESTIONS IS ENCOURAGED TO GO TO A INFORMAL MEETING BEING HELD TONIGHT TO EXPLAIN THE PROJECT.4:06 we're going to have our 3 THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE FINISHED IN THE FALL OF 2015. THE OPEN HOUSE TONIGHT FROM 5 TO 7 P-M AT THE ARLINGTON CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH ON UNIVERSITY BOULEVARD.
