ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -

The family said they're finally getting some closure after Florida Highway Patrol investigators have arrested a 51-year-old man in connection with a crash that killed an 18-year-old woman last year.

Fredrick Andrews, of St. Augustine, is charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of Shae Burchfield. Andrews was arrested Friday and booked into the St. Johns County Jail.

State troopers said Burchfield was riding a dirt bike northbound on Wildwood Drive at South Winter Hawk Drive about 2:30 p.m. on July 8, and Andrews was driving a pickup truck southbound when the front of the pickup struck the dirt bike head-on, killing Burchfield.

Burchfield's grandmother, Gloria Burchfield, has been reminiscing about her granddaughter since her death. "We're getting ready to close one book and open another," Gloria said.

Troopers said witnesses saw Andrews driving erratically before the crash. They said FHP investigators took a blood sample from Andrews at the scene of the crash to determine if alcohol or drugs were present in his syste.

Investigators said an extensive blood analysis showed that Xanax, cocaine and methadone were in Andrews' system at the time of the crash, and investigators determined Andrews was under the influence of drugs while he was driving.

Burchfield was yards away from her home when she was killed.

Burchfield's family said even though they will always have to live with the pain of her death, they don't wish any bad on the person responsible for taking her life.

"I don't want to necessarily see [Andrews] go to prison for the rest of his life," Burchfield's grandfather, Carl Burchfield said. "But, I would like to see him get some help and get him off the streets for a while."

While Burchfield's grandfather still tries to cope with the tragedy, he offers these words of advice:

"When you say 'Goodbye,' make sure the last words are, 'I love you,'" Carl said. "That happened between Shae and I, and I'm thankful for that."
