A Central Florida family returned home from dinner Friday night and discovered the body of their baby sitter, who had been slain, while their toddler was inside the home.
The body of Margaret Gee, 59, was found inside a home on Melodie Lane in DeLand. The boy was not harmed and was possibly asleep during the killing.
The Scribner family was renting a room in Gee's home, and Gee often babysat for their children. Friday night, the couple took their youngest child out to dinner, leaving their toddler with Gee. They returned home two hours later and made the discovery.
Benjamin Scribner said he called 911 after he discovered Gee's body on her bed, with her bedroom door open. He told Local 6 she had injuries all over her body.
Investigators have interviewed and released a person of interest in the case.
Neighbors worry the killer was someone she knew because Scribner said the front door was still locked.
"I guess it was gruesome," said neighbor Evelyn Waldron. "I was sad. I was crushed, I was, because she did not deserve that."
Waldron, who lives next door and had been friends with Gee for more than a decade, said she never heard anything out of the ordinary that night and worries the killer is someone close to the victim.
Friends say Gee was a loving, caring woman, who did not deserve what happened.
