JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Great news for those of you with kids heading back to school. Technology is going to make this school year a little easier for your kids.  If you have a smart phone or tablet, there are four apps that students from middle school to college may find very helpful.

The first app is myHomeWork. Students can manage assignment deadlines, exam dates, grades and class schedules using organized, color-coded calendars. It's easy to track homework details and students can set reminder alarms and quickly silence phones during class.

The SparkNotes app is another option. This one offers study guides for literature, poetry, short stories, drama and philosophy. All of these are downloadable for offline use. Need a study group? Users can check-in to share their current location on the place page and on Facebook, quickly corralling friends for discussion.

The third choice, and a student favorite, the HwPic Homework Tutor app. This one answers questions in chemistry, biology, physics, algebra, calculus, anatomy and other math and science subjects within five to 20 minutes. Users can ask up to three questions daily; answers are received via email.

And finally, the app 50Languages. This app contains a helpful 30 lessons and makes it surprisingly quick and easy to learn and fluently speak short sentences. Select the language and pick the topic (family members, days of the week), and get started. It also has flash cards, word lists and progress tests.

All four of these free apps are available for Android, iPhone and iPad.
