JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

As Tropical Storm Beryl looms near the Florida coast, beachgoers still tried to enjoy the sand and surf Saturday afternoon.

By taking a look outside, it's hard to tell that a storm is on the way. Many vacationers said they are trying to set their fears aside and have fun in the sun.

"I'm trying to ignore that," vacationer Annette Wedzel said. "I'm trying to decide whether to stay or leave. [My husband] says we're staying. No question about it."

Surfers enjoyed the waves while they still could, but many families were concerned that Saturday could be their last chance to hit the beach over the holiday weekend.

"We plan on just hanging out on the beach one final morning, playing in the waves, jumping in the waves and just hanging out," Brent Lackey said.

The waves may look and feel good, but lifeguards say to always check conditions before getting in the water.

"We’re going to fly red flags, we’ve had strong rips all week, and with more people on the beach, it increases the likelihood something bad can happen," Captain Thomas Wright with Jacksonville Beach Ocean Rescue said.
