JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

If you one of an estimated150,000 people who plan to head downtown for tonight's Fireworks Spectacular, here's some suggestions about when to arrive and where to park.

The fireworks are set off from two barges in the St. Johns River, and are east to see from Metro Park to parts of Riverside on the Northbank and the Duval County School Board Building to the Acosta Bridge on the Southbank.  The pyrotechnics show begins at 9:45 p.m.

The city suggests you arrive a few hours before to get a good spot in either downtown or the Southbank to park and watch.

The Main Street and Acosta bridges will closed before the fireworks show, so don't plan on using them between about 9 p.m. and 10:15 p.m.

The city will have five parking lots open:

  • West lot, 300 Courthouse Drive
  • Water Street Garage, 541 Water Street
  • Bay and Ocean lot, 112 E. Bay Street
  • Forsyth lot, Corner of Main Street and Forsyth Street
  • Yates Garage, 200 E. Adams Street

Lots and garages open at 5 p.m. The is either $5 or $10, so bring cash.

Street parking will be free, if you can find it.

The JTA Skyway will also be open to travel across the river between 5 p.m. and midnight, and it's now free of charge. The water taxi, which runs between the Northbank and Southbank of the St. Johns River, is another option.  It costs $3 each way, $2 for children under 3 or seniors over 60.

The JTA Trollies (including the Riverside Trolley) will not be running.

Or you could say out of the traffic and get some of the best vantage points available -- in high definition -- by watching Channel 4's Fireworks Spectacular broadcast, which begins at 8 p.m.
