A man is in serious condition Friday after a driver hit him and took off while he was riding his bicycle in Hastings.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Erik Hansen, 32, of Hastings, was riding his bike southbound on the shoulder of Reid Packing House Road near Kelly Road at around 6 p.m. Thursday. The driver of an unknown car traveling in the same direction as Hansen hit the bicyclist.

Hansen was knocked into a ditch from the impact. The driver then left the scene. Someone saw Hansen crawling out of the ditch and called the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. Hansen was taken to Orange Park Medical Center in serious condition.
