The Bob Hayes Invitational Track and Field meet was organized in the spring of 1964 with Douglas Anderson High School in the southside serving as the host and northwestern high school serving as the running site. At that time, originator Nathaniel S. Washington was Athletic director, head coach and track coordinator for the five black high schools in the county. Washington teamed up with Bob Hayes, after Hayes ran a 10.0 in the 100 meter race in the 1964 Olympics. And today- people in the community are keeping his memory alive with a yearly invitational and scholarship program. Here to tell us all about it is Theresa Hodge, chair of the black tie event that supports the scholarships. We also have Brianna Frazier - a UNF senior who is a scholarship recipient. 3 NOT AVAILABLE FOR CLOSED CAPTIONING.
