The body of a missing 23-year-old Fleming Island man was found in a submerged van pulled from Black Creek late Wednesday afternoon, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the dive team was searching the creek in the case of Chris Timmers, who hadn't been seen or heard from since last Thursday night.
Investigators said they were searching near Black Creek Boat Ramp as a matter of due diligence when they have a missing persons case and that no specific lead led them there. The dive team used sonar to find the van.
According to the Sheriff's Office, there is no reason to suspect foul play. The Medical Examiner's Office will try to determine a cause of death.
Deputies said Timmers was last seen just before midnight Friday at Senor Wings at 700 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park.
Timmers was last seen driving a beige or gold 2008 Honda Odyssey, which was the van found in Black Creek.
Deputies had said it was out of character for Timmers to not contact his family, and given that and the amount of time it had been since anyone had heard from him, detectives consider him endangered.
