A 15-year-old Bolles High School student died Tuesday from a sudden illness involving inflammation around the brain.

McKenzie Wilson, who was a cheerleader and a softball player, was getting ready to begin her sophomore year next week.

Students and faculty gathered Tuesday evening at a vigil at the school to remember Wilson. Grief counselors were also on hand.

"She will be missed. She did so much on campus, so much for everybody," said Caleb Denmark, a Bolles graduate.

Channel 4 has learned that Wilson is the daughter of EverBank President and CFO, Blake Wilson.

The Wilson family released a statement late Tuesday evening:

"We are heartbroken at the loss of our beautiful daughter, who was tragically taken from us far too soon. Through the 15 years she was with us, McKenzie brightened the lives of so many people around her, and we are fiercely proud of the caring and wonderful young woman we raised. She will forever be in our hearts. Our family is truly touched by the flood of support from our friends and neighbors, and asks that you continue to hold us in your thoughts and prayers."

EverBank also released a statement:

"We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of McKenzie, and appreciate the outpouring of heartfelt condolences. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at EverBank are with the Wilson family during this difficult time."

John Trainer Jr., the president and head of school at Bolles, issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon:

"The Bolles School mourns the loss of one of our students, sophomore McKenzie Wilson. We are deeply saddened by her sudden passing and our deepest sympathies are with her family. McKenzie was an active member of the Bolles community and will be greatly missed."

According to Wilson's Facebook page, the teen said she got sick Aug. 10. It's unclear what the illness was.
