The Amtrak train station in Northwest Jacksonville was evacuated and closed early Saturday morning after a suspicious piece of luggage was found.
According to an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office bomb squad, around 7a.m. an employee was moving a piece of luggage and heard a suspicious noise. The officer wouldn't go into what kind of noise the worker heard.
The bomb squad examined the suitcase and determined it to be safe. The team was only there for about45 minutes before they cleared the station from any danger.
Some trains were delayed for a few hours, but the station reopened around 9:45a.m. Amtrak's district manager said the station was closed for about two-and-a-half hours and there would be minimal delays Saturday.
James Scallan said his train stopped on the tracks for a few minutes.
"Everybody was wondering because nobody had said nothing," Scallan said. "Nobody said anything to the passengers and everybody was concerned that was getting off at Jacksonville."
