JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A child on a bike ran a stop sign and slammed into an officer's cruiser just before noon Sunday, police said.

The accident happened at the intersection of St. Clair and West 10th Street. The boy was taken to Shands Medical Center for observation.

Witnesses said the officer was driving the speed limit, but the boy on the bike ran the stop sign and rode into the path of the police car. The child, who is said to be younger than 10 years old, struck the front corner of the police car.

Investigators say charges won't be filed and that speed was not a factor in this crash.
