We have just learned that Sheriff Rutherford says if pension reform is NOT passed - his office may be forced to lay off hundreds of staff .... including police. The Sheriff was asked to cut 29 million from his budget... Today... he told the pension reform board, it's something he WON'T and CAN'T do. JSO isn't the only city department that could be impacted ...Fire Rescue says it may have to close some fire stations and eliminate overtime. As part of a proposed budget plan, fire officials are suggesting more than 10- million dollars in cuts, which include closing stations in Tallyrand and St.Nicholas.
