Burned out family receives new home
Family's mobile home burned down Dec. 21
A Jacksonville family who was burned out of their home just days before Christmas moved into a new one thanks to the help of the community.
On Friday, the Jays were sorting through boxes and moving into their new 3-bedroom home.
Jessica Jay isn't sure what started the fire, but she remembers watching her home burn down in a mobile home park off of Collins Road on Dec. 21, a few days before her three sons were going to open their Christmas presents.
"We lost everything. We bought them all new electronics for their room, new bed, new everything. We lost it all, so it's rough," she said.
After living in a hotel for a week, she now feels better.
"It's starting to look a lot better, but it's still a long struggle that we have," said Jay.
She thanked the community for their help.
"That's the God's honest truth. If it wasn't donations, we wouldn't be able to move in and turn power on today," she said.
Her sons are also happy to have a new home.
"I like it because me and my brother can have our own bedroom and we can have our own toys," said Skylar Jay.
If you would like to help the family, donations are being accepted through the Jays' VyStar Credit Union account 702913642.
