Call center to bring 150-300 jobs to Jacksonville
Job fair to be held Monday, Tuesday
UnitedHealth Group announced Wednesday it will open a call center in Jacksonville in the second quarter of the year for its pharmacy benefits management company OptumRx that will employ 150 people initially, and maybe as many as 300 down the road.
The center will be located near Baptist Medical Center South.
"We are looking right now for customer service representatives, senior lead customer service reps, some operations trainers, customer service supervisors, managers, positions like that," David Himmell, communications director for OptumRx, said in a phone interview.
Starting pay will be $30,000 for entry-level positions, Himmell said. The company plans to make a major investment to build out the center on Corklan Drive and spend nearly $1.5 million. It is also looking for a temporary training facility at the center until the main complex is complete.
The company believes Jacksonville is the right choice because of work force.
"We look around the nation and try to hone in on sites that have robust and diverse labor markets, a welcoming business climate. Those are some of the key drivers," Himmell said. "We also look for favorable regulatory climates, good geographic locations with a good quality of life for our employees."
The company is moving fast and will hold a job fair Monday and Tuesday at the Embassy Suites on Baymeadows Road from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. For information about available jobs, visit careers.unitedhealthgroup.com.
The company has 5,000 employees nationwide.
Mayor Alvin Brown says the company made Jacksonville its choice without being offered any kind of tax break.
"No incentive on this one," he said. "They came in and liked Jacksonville. It's a good way of saying we are going to make the transition into this city very well received, and that is why I want to make sure people get out Monday or Tuesday next week at 10 a.m. If you're looking for a job, this is the place to go."
