3 3 3 Now to a POSITIVELY JAX story -- Homeless and professional Volunteers hit the streets of downtown Jacksonville today - cleaning up TEN locations. It's called Day of Impact. Channel 4's Ashley Mitchem went downtown to check out the event. 3 00-0818-2431-3457-104Hand full of city service groups came together to put on the Day of Impact.More than 150 volunteers gathered at the Jacksonville Day Resource Center, a place where hundreds of homeless people get help. The volunteers includes business professionals, homeless people and other people who use city services. Many of the city service's groups hope the public will look at homeless people differently when they see them serving the community.Penny Kievet, Executive Director City Rescue Mission 58:41 The homeless are not bad and we need to come along side of them provide them with the things they need so they can get back on their feet and off the streetThe City Rescue Mission helps people battle addiction- they say they help about 100 people a year overcome addition, get a job or a place to live.00:14 These are people and they have needs and if we can provide those needs so folks can enter society again and not be a drain but be a help which is what's happening today with the day of impactThis is the first year of the event, there are no concrete plans but they hope to do this again in the fall.
