Convicted child predator to remain incarcerated in Arcadia facility

A jury decided Wednesday afternoon to send Fernando Viruet back to the Florida Civil Commitment Center in Arcadia, Florida for indefinite confinement.

The 45-year-old was ordered to return to the facility after a civil trial.

In 1990, Viruet pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted capital sexual battery and three counts of lewd and lascivious assault on a minor child. He was sentenced to ten years in prison and 15 years of probation.

In 1995, Viruet violated his probation when he admitted to molesting an 11-year-old boy. Viruet was sentenced to nine years in prison for that crime. After his release, Viruet was ordered to the commitment facility.
